A tough and pretty Chicago police officer helps to save a life in a terrible traffic accident. One year later a mysterious, romantic, good Samaritan comes to her rescue when a hoodlum has her at gunpoint. The two lonely people begin a relationship that turns into romance and allows each to look into their past. The MPAA rates this film R for language, violence and nudity. Strong language, including profanity, is prominent with street talk and guttural slang towards police officers. A female officer is the object of sexually explicit suggestions and is groped by a prisoner. Viewers see the scene of a terrible traffic accident, but there is no gore. Hand-to-hand combat, including handguns, is demonstrated in a street fight. Police officers sitting in a restaurant are the victims of a drive-by shooting. Attackers use an automatic weapon. A handgun is used in a point-blank shooting of an officer wearing a bulletproof vest. Blood is seen in all of the scenes with violence including two times when people were slapped or punched. Reference is also made to domestic violence (and its perpetuation through generations), and a woman is seen with a black eye as a result. Viewers do not see the domestic violence take place on the screen. A man and woman are seen swimming in their underwear, which then transitions to a sex scene in which the two are nude. The camera angles prevent viewers from seeing intimate body parts. Drinking alcohol is a common activity for the characters, including off-duty police officers.
