MovieDescription: BLESS THE CHILD Cast: Kim Basinger, Jimmy Smits, Angela Bettis, Christina Ricci, Rufus Sewell Directed by: Chuck Russell A psychiatric nurse is caught up in a plot headed up by a satanic cult to kidnap children born on a specific date, including her niece. The cult, operating under the disguise of a new-age, self-help group for young people, is searching for a special child whose destiny is to become a prophet and lead many people to God. The MPAA rates this film "R" for violence, drug content, and language. The central character is a little girl chosen by God to point people to him. First believed to be autistic because of her mother's drug abuse, it becomes apparent that her strange behaviors are actually gifts. She has the power to heal and restore life with just a touch, and despite no religious upbringing, has a powerful belief in God. This movie contains one or two brief instances of strong language. Several scenes include visual images of and dialogue about street drug abuse, including paraphernalia and in one scene, a man is using a syringe to inject a woman's arm. Numerous scenes include violence including gangland style murder and occult practices including blood. Many scenes have a menacing feel and display disturbing images including satanic symbols, telekinesis, hideous demons, the appearance of angels, and other supernatural events. A murdered child's body is brought up from the bottom of the river by police. A woman is struck on the head from behind, but witnesses the gangland beating and murder of a woman. After the attackers leave, the women reaches out to help the victim and her decapitated head rolls away from the body. A man coaxes a deranged man to pour gasoline on himself and strike a match. After the match is lit, another person blows out the flame in time to save him. Later in the scene, however, the man tosses a lighter, igniting the man in flames. A man holds a child over the ledge of a high-rise building and tells her jump if she believes that God will save her. A group of cultists are seen in an alley killing an animal with sticks. Viewers see blood, but the view of the animal is blocked. Kidnapping scenes include children and adults and are frightening. A woman holds a gun on a man and fires it, but it contains no bullets. Despite the subject matter and many disturbing scenes, other scenes offer balance with people praying and forces of good rescuing people in trouble. In the end, those practicing evil receive consequences for their actions, and the movie sends a powerful message that good will, in the end, triumph over evil.
