In this thriller, social order collapses in the face of a plague of sudden blindness. Unaffected individuals put the blind into concentration-camp-like facilities due to fear of becoming infected. Within the camp, social order completely fails. A blind doctor and his seeing wife try to help as many as they can to survive the cultural decay. The MPAA rates the film R for violence, sexual assaults, language, sexuality and nudity. Women are forced to have sex with multiple men in order to obtain food. A woman displeases her assailant and is beaten to death. The assaults are graphically depicted with sudden images emerging from the darkness and with audio clips. Violence and sexuality are linked in multiple scenes. A blind man indiscriminately fires a handgun, killing unintended victims. Government forces shoot and kill blind people under the guise of crowd control. A man is stabbed to death with a pair of scissors. Bloody, dead bodies are shown. Dogs are shown disemboweling a corpse. Strong language and profanity are used in the film. Racial epithets and gender slurs are used, as well. Couples engage is sex acts in public because they believe no one can see. A wife encounters her husband having sex with another woman. Full frontal nudity and partial nudity of males and females predominate the film.
