The MPAA has rated this movie R for violence, sexuality, and nudity. There is one instance of strong language. Soldiers drink strong wine in lieu of bad water and become intoxicated. The intoxication plays a role in precipitating a murder by the main character. Ancient battle violence dominates many scenes with the gruesome wounding and death of horses, elephants and men with swords, arrows, spears and other ancient weapons. The main character engages in homosexual and heterosexual love scenes. He is shown naked getting into bed as viewers glimpse a shadowy image of male genitalia; he kissesi a young male servant on the mouth. His female lover is shown fully nude from the front preceding lovemaking. Viewers witness two rape scenes, one between the main characters parents and one between the main character and his new wife. After making many enemies among his family, his generals and the soldiers he led, he dies at 33, history suggests, by his own thirst for power.
