MovieDescription: PUBLIC ENEMIES Cast: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Graham, Billy Crudup. Directed by Michael Mann. This film depicts historical events of the gangster John Dillinger and his associates. A criminal who robbed banks and staged a few prison breaks, Dillinger is portrayed as a man who carefully manipulated public opinion to gain a degree of celebrity and even acclaim. The MPAA rates this film R for violence and language. The film contains some profanity ranging from moderate to strong. There are numerous scenes of violence, including massive gunfire that injures and kills individuals. Machineguns are frequently used, as are rifles and handguns to a lesser degree, to rob banks, escape the police and apprehend wanted criminals. Several individuals are portrayed as being shot at close range and killed, with their bloody wounds graphically depicted. In one scene a man is shown being shot through the head from the rear, leaving a gaping hole. In another scene a massive shootout leaves many individuals, including innocent bystanders, dead on the street in pools of blood. Men are pistol-whipped and beaten. A woman is graphically beaten by police in an attempt to interrogate her. Bank robbers use civilians as human shields to escape police gunfire. Characters smoke tobacco products and drink alcohol in social settings. A man and woman are portrayed as engaging in casual, premarital sex. There is no nudity depicted in the film.
