In this story based on a book by Carl Sagan, an astronomer with an interest in finding life in outer space discovers sounds coming from a solar system many light years away. The MPAA rates this "PG" for some intense action, mild language and a scene with sensuality. A couple on a first date are so taken with each other that they end up in bed together. We only experience the "after" scene which consists of talking about other things. About four mild swear words are included. The tension and possible disaster comes with an attempt to fly in an untested space craft. The beginning of this film may seem like one to bring the children to see. However, when considering the entire movie, it is probably a film more suited for teens and adults. I doubt that many children would be able to sustain an interest through this long movie unless they have an intellectual interest or curiosity about the universe and it's relationship to religious and scientific concepts.
