Directed by Kevin Tancharoen. Based loosely on the 1980s film, this movie features a group of teens as they move through four years at New York Citys Performing Arts High School. The teens learn to master their craft as well as face the challenges of growing up and reaching for their place in the spotlight. The MPAA has rated this film PG for thematic material, sexual content and language. The language in the film includes mild to moderate profanity. There are some scenes where teenagers are drinking alcohol. In one scene a girl is videotaped while intoxicated and vomits on camera. Teens discuss doing shots of alcohol at a party. A minor drinks a beer socially in his trailer. A young man makes unwanted sexual advances on a girl under the guise of rehearsing for an audition. A girl provocatively suggests that she and her boyfriend should visit her fathers empty apartment. Teens are depicted kissing passionately in several scenes, but there is no nudity or other sexual activity depicted. Mature thematic discussions include the death of a younger sibling in a drive-by shooting and the pressures of juggling academic demands with work.
