In this drama, a young professional cellist and an Irish rock musician meet and fall in love. After spending a romantic night together on a moonlit rooftop, they promise to see each other again, but despite her protests, the cellist's father whisks her to her next concert date, leaving her lover with no way to contact her. Twelve years later a child musical prodigy leaves the orphanage where he was raised and sets out on a quest to find his parents. The MPAA has rated this film PG-13 for thematic elements, violence and language. Some strong language occurs throughout this film. The cellist's father controls her career and her personal life, keeping her separated from any young suitors who might threaten his position as his daughter's manager. Fearing that his daughter's illegitimate child would ruin her career, he lies to her about the outcome of her difficult labor and delivery. Strong themes of premarital sex, pregnancy, adoption, abandonment, and controlling relationships influence the characters.
